They met at church. Ryan was the coffee guy with the bowties, Kathryne was the gorgeous blonde with the amazing voice. At first they didn’t pay much attention to one another. But they began to show up at the same places, and found shared interests and humor. Kathryne was drawn to his “unabashed honesty and immeasurable kindness.” And that he was really cute. Ryan found that in group settings, he noticed her more than anyone else in the room, and couldn’t quite get her out of his head.

He took a leap and asked her to coffee and laid it all on the line for her, sharing his feelings and his intentions. They met just days later to talk again, and “make it official.” The next day Ryan began to save for the ring.

He proposed on Christmas Eve with a booklet made out of a deck of cards entitled, “52 Reasons Why I Love You.” The very last reason was, “You’re about to say yes.” The ring came out, the deck of cards got dropped, and Kathryne said yes!

They celebrated their wedding at The Old Silk Mill in their hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia, a venue that combines their love of casual elegance with industrial structure. Given Ryan’s occupation in the coffee industry, coffee played a significant role in their wedding— wedding party photos in front of their favorite coffee shop, custom blend coffee beans as guest favors, and several kinds of coffee offered during cocktail hour and their reception, for example.
