As a DC-based wedding photographer, I know the importance of consistency, both in the work I produce and in the way I communicate about that work. That’s why I make a point to blog at least three days a week, ever week, maintain a quick turn-around time for wedding images, and work to over-communicate with my clients.
Sometimes, however, life happens… and my work schedule squeeeeeeezes tight… and I have to choose where to focus my time, and what to let fall through the cracks.
We bought a house on July 2 (!!!!!!!!! our first home!!!), and the past three weeks have been an absolutely insane flurry of activity, juggling crazy schedules, and choosing what to work on and what to let fall through. We’ve split our time between working regular hours (or close to that) and painting for hours almost every day, pushing hard to get things done before we move in THIS SATURDAY. I have move flexible hours, naturally, which means somedays I’ll spend mornings at the house and afternoons and evenings at work, if that’s what makes the most sense for our schedule. I must confess, I’ve been a pretty stress-filled ball of stress the last few weeks! And I’ve let a few parts of my work-life slip more than I’d like to admit. Aka, The Blog.
I’ve missed you here, really I have. But when I only have a few broken-up 3-hour chunks on any given day, I’m going to work my tail off on delivering images to my clients, because they always come first. Blogging had to take a back-seat for a few weeks. I’m hoping to get back to “your regularly scheduled programming” next week, but for now, here’s just a little “before show” on our new home.
As much as we love all of the greenery out front, it’s full of poison ivy, and the bushes are over-mature (dying from the roots up), so we’re planning to tear them all out and start over.Super happy!!!We LOVE this green door!!! Painting it a similar shade in hi-gloss, and replacing the eagle knocker with a pineapple (symbol of Southern hospitality)Not at ALL a fan of this dark entryway. Planning to do a light, graphic wallpaper in blue and white, and a massive gold mirror over an entry table. We’re also taking off the inner door (for ease and traffic flow) and moving it to my office, as a sliding door.LOVE these wood floors and the fireplace!! And built-in bookshelves. Happy, happy! Just changing the paint color. One day we’ll replace the tiles around the fireplace. One day.The dining room / kitchen. We plan to replace the dining light fixture, paint, and that’s about it.We’re not crazy about the cabinet colors, so we’re painting (two-tone navy and white!). It’s almost done already, and looks sooooo fine! We have grand plans of an addition / kitchen expansion in a few years. Not sure it will actually happen, but we have hopes! One day I’m hoping this will be a dutch door!Main floor powder room.Master Bedroom. Larger than it looks here. 🙂 Brightening the color a tad. Love this massive closet! Our one and only full bath. In our grand plans of a kitchen addition, we have dreams of adding a master bathroom, as well. Dreamers can dream, right? My office!!!!! Changing the color to a cool grey-white, and taking off the main door (sliding door with clear glass instead!)Guest room. Love the color, just repainting it to freshen. Favorite house quirk! Built-in steps up to the attic. We have dreams of finishing the attic one day! Basement, which we plan to use as a rec / entertainment room. But down a rug, add a sectional, do recessed lights, and boom. So that’s our house tour! More to come in the future as we complete projects!!!
