Partway through their wedding reception at the St Regis DC, Matt got up on stage, opened his wallet, and pulled out a creased and well-worn letter. It was the first letter Hannah ever wrote to him, the summer after they met. It wasn’t substantive or emotional— they were teenagers after all (she was 17, he was at West Point, and letter-writing was the only way to stay in touch)— but he kept it anyway. Because from the moment they met, Matt knew that Hannah was the one for him. That letter stayed in his wallet through his years at West Point, multiple deployments, and 7 years of dating, and there was not a dry eye in the room as he talked about what that Hannah meant to him, and how excited they were to finally be married.
In addition to being a tear-jerker of a day, Matt & Hannah’s black tie wedding was the epitome of Southern elegance. Every detail was thoughtfully planned out, from the dusty blue monograms adorning invitations and cocktail hour pillows, to the hand-made sugar magnolia blooms on their cake. Hannah stepped into her Romona Keveza gown at her childhood home in Alexandria, then donned a pearl bracelet gifted by her grandmother. Her bouquet, featuring garden roses and magnolia leaves, was wrapped in an embroidered handkerchief belonging to her great-great grandmother and adorned with a pin from her mother.
Matt & Hannah met for their first look in the courtyard outside of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House for portraits before the ceremony, and no one could hold back the tears on such a perfect moment. After a beautiful ceremony, the newlyweds left the church under a traditional Saber Arch. Their reception at The St. Regis Washington, DC did not disappoint with a cocktail lounge featuring lush velvet couches and arm chairs, and a gorgeous magnolia swag atop the bar. Matt and Hannah made a donation in honor of their guests in lieu of wedding favors to Lead the Way Fund; which supports Rangers who are wounded in action, and families of Rangers killed in action. Matt and Hannah ended the evening with some romantic portraits in the lobby before dancing and singing the night away.
