Desert Sunset-Inspired Modern Wedding Editorial at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian

In 2019, many DC-area Smithsonian museums opened their doors for private events like weddings for the very first time. You can imagine my excitement! I’m an avid museum lover, and I’m giddy at the prospect of photographing an event in a beautifully-designed space with a unique story.
When the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian expressed a need for marketing materials (and past bride Jorian pitched herself as lead designer for the project), we jumped at the opportunity to create for them.
Whenever I do a wedding editorial, I start with a story to give it depth. We imagined a girl from Arizona and a boy from California move to DC for graduate school, where they meet and fall in love. When they begin planning their wedding, they decide to celebrate in the city that brought them together, while still giving a nod to their roots in both the venue and design. The Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian’s round rotunda, limestone construction, and warm interior tones reminded them of home— while still giving stunning views of the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument.
We had an amazing vendor team come together to bring this vision to life:
